Description
Opoponax oil or sweet myrrh is steam distilled from the crude oleogum resin. It's described as having antispasmodic, expectorant and antiseptic properties, which used to be employed in asthma, hysteria and visceral afflictions. This orange-yellow essential oil is a useful material as a fixative and fragrance component in high-class perfumery, which offer sweet, balsamic and almost effervescent in character. It is mainly used in oriental accords and also gives a sweet lift to chypre fragrances as a top note. Like frankincense, it is excellent for meditation.
